Behavioral Health Technician - Emergency Department - (0.8)

Job Description:

Assists with assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of selected technical aspects of patient care in the Adult and Child/Adolescent Behavioral Health Unit, under the direct supervision of the Charge RN, Assistant Head Nurse, Nurse Manager and/or the Director, to meet the requirements of the Joint Commision and other applicable federal, state and local regulatory or accrediting agencies as well as meeting the goals and mission of the Behavioral Health Department and the Medical Center. Position requires a high level of customer service skills to establish and enhance positive relationships with patients, co-workers, and others.

Education Qualifications:

  • B.A. or B.S. with a major in social sciences/human services, nursing/healthcare or B.A. or B.S. in a scientific field with complimentary human services experience
  • OR: Completion of six quarters or four semesters of college with emphasis in social sciences and minimum of two years experience working in a chemical dependency or mental health treatment program within five years of date of hire.
  • OR: High school graduate or GED and minimum of four years experience working in a chemical dependency or mental health treatment program within five years of date of hire.

Licensure/Certification Qualifications:

East Market :
In accordance with Minnesota Rules 9530.6450 Subpart 1-B; all employees must be free of chemical use problems for at least the two years immediately preceding their hiring and must sign a statement attesting to that fact. Chemical use problems are defined as: Receiving treatment for chemical use within the period specified for the position in the staff qualification requirements. Chemical use that has a negative impact on the staff member's job performance; Chemical use that affects the credibility of treatment services with clients, referral sources, or other members of the community; and Symptoms of intoxication or withdrawal on the job.
