Job Description:

•Strategically plans, organizes, and directs the Clinical and Anatomic Laboratory practice and services across Essentia Health. •Serves as the operating executive responsible for the operational and clinical oversight and business expansion of Laboratory and Pathology services across the enterprise. •Works in concert with senior leadership to strategically develop Essentia Health Laboratory expansion opportunities, manage the initiation of developing new business enterprises, and oversee the development and operation of all Essentia Diagnostic services. •Provides leadership and establishes productive relationships with Essentia Health leadership teams, physicians, Chief Medical Officer, Chief Nursing Officer, division, and department leaders to optimize all aspects of Laboratory and Pathology services across Essentia Health integrated care delivery system. •Ensure compliance with Clinical and Ambulatory Laboratory regulatory and clinical quality standards.Key Responsibilities•Provides clinical and service vision and strategic direction to Laboratory and Pathology services across Essentia Health including establishment of organizationally aligned performance goals, financial performance, timelines, and outcome metrics. •Serves as administrative partner to Essentia Health Chair of Pathology (physician leader)•Leads standardization of Clinical and Anatomic Laboratory practice throughout Essentia Health•Responsible for prioritizing Clinical and Anatomic Laboratory initiatives in alignment with Essentia Health strategic plan as well as in response to organizational and regulatory imperatives which support the accountable care model.•Provides leadership and direction to assure compliance with all Laboratory regulations, accreditation standards and Essentia Health policies and procedures.•Responsible for financial performance of Laboratory. Assures optimal fiscal stewardship for the Essentia Health Laboratory with management and controls for the cost centers. Work directly and proactively with hospital and ambulatory leadership (operations, Population Health, Quality, clinical, finance, reimbursement, etc.) to assure appropriate resource utilization, consistent operations and scope of services provided. Monitors performance against operating plan implementing adjustments to meet metrics as necessary.•Seeks to develop Clinical and Anatomic Laboratory expansion opportunities for any Essentia Health entity while ensuring that shared clinical service expansions and new business initiations are consistent with Essentia Health’s mission, vision and values, and that system wide priorities of service excellence, patient safety and quality are met.•Evaluates areas of new program development, innovation, and opportunities for integration. Identifies and leads expansion opportunities of those programs ensuring that Essentia Health Laboratory services remain in the forefront of Laboratory service and science.•Ensures services are coordinated with other Essentia Health services and corporate plans. As part of the overall corporate strategy, is responsible for maintaining a communication system that interfaces with the medical staff and other Essentia Health departments to ensure quality patient care.•Directs and evaluates Laboratory academic and research programs.•Represents Essentia Health as may be required at the Board/Senior Leadership level of all Essentia Health sites, joint-venture partners, and companies to which any Essentia Health Laboratory services (utilization, procurement, contracting, pathways, etc.) is involved.•Recruits, develops, and retains high performing Laboratory professionals and staff in accordance with Essentia Health’s Human Resources policy, procedures, and practice to ensure optimum operational, clinical, and business operations of the department.Required Qualifications•Minimum of 10 years of experience in Healthcare and Laboratory•Minimum of 5 years of recent leadership and management experience, demonstrating progressive leadership development and competency across multiple sites. Integrated health care system experience preferred.•Wide range of Laboratory practice management experience. Experience working in a dyad leadership model.•Strong business and financial skills with experience successfully managing a large, multi-site departmental budget.•Demonstrated success in leading projects and initiatives to improve the efficiency, quality, responsiveness, and overall level of service of Clinical and Anatomic Laboratory in an ever-changing healthcare environment.•Demonstrates visionary leadership.•Requires effective written and verbal communication skills; complex problem solving and analytical skills.Preferred Qualifications•Prior progressive Management experience ideally as a Director of Clinical and Anatomic Laboratory or a reference laboratory.•Previous hospital/healthcare laboratory experience
